We had a terrific turnout at our first networking event on Feb. 23.  There was an estimated crowd of approximately 40 business leaders from Central Arkansas, all interested in one thing...green and sustainable business!  How exciting that everyone could join us at Dizzy's Gypsy Bistro and meet other sustainability-minded business persons.  We can't wait for our next quarterly networking event!  We hope you'll join us in June.

In spite of snowy weather, several hearty Arkansas business people attended a meeting to discuss commercial recycling options in Central Arkansas.  The meeting was co-hosted by the SBNCA, Keep Little Rock Beautiful, and the Little Rock Sustainability Commission's Green City Operations Committee.  The purpose of the meeting was to bring together government, business, nonprofit, and recycling companies to exchange information about the challenges and successes of commercial recycling; to educate about the state (including costs) of recycling; to facilitate recycling by other businesses in the community; to disseminate information on how to start a recycling program; to generate a list of suggestions for the LRSC Green City Operations Committee to forward to the City of Little Rock and other appropriate parties.

The word is getting out!  The Sustainable Business Network of Central Arkansas was featured in a recent Clean & Green segment of Talk Business with Roby Brock.  The segment also featured Robyn Madden of NAPCO, one of our terrific Charter Members.  In case you missed it, watch the video online!

We are also fortunate that our members are being showcased on the monthly Clean & Green Hour on KABF community radio.  On January 16, Ron Hughes of HERS, Inc. was featured (another great Charter Member)!  Would you like to be the SBNCA member business featured on the next show?  Contact us!

If your business would like to become a Charter Member or Charter Supporter, complete the online application or contact us at info@sbnca.org.

Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) is one of the newest Charter Members with the SBNCA.  We recently spoke with Joe Knight, the Environmental Management Coordinator for ACH, to find out what types of green or sustainability initiatives they have underway.

We found out that ACH is growing its recycling program.  ACH is currently "recycling paper generated from the destruction of confidential documents, recycling and reusing Xylene in the Histology lab, and recycling electronics waste, rechargeable batteries, lead batteries, and mercury containing lamps (including green-tip)," according to Knight.  In addition to recycling, Knight tells us that ACH utilizes "6 electric vehicles for the transport of visitors and internal delivery of supplies and is focused on the reduction of medical waste generation through the use of reusable sharps containers."

Way to grow green, ACH!

We would also like to thank Kevin Cates Graphic Design for our very cool new logo and letterhead designs.  We are fortunate to work with such talented individuals!
